How did you choose your derby name?
Honestly, an ex girlfriend came up with it well before I joined derby. She started calling me Hormiga because in spite of my small stature, I am feisty, determined, strong and very agile. Hormiga is the Spanish word for little ant. I may be tiny but I’m mighty!!

How has derby changed your life?
At the age of 40, I never thought I could actually learn to quad skate, let alone join roller derby and pass assessments. Derby has given me the confidence boost I needed to stick with the training process.

What lesson(s) have you learned through roller derby?
It has taught me that I truly can accomplish anything if I set my mind to the task and push myself through blood, swear and tears to success. I can’t believe I’m a real, live, certifiable roller derby girl!

What is something non-derby related on your bucket list?
To travel to the place of my birth for the first time in my life: Bogota, Colombia.
